Start me up, we're half way there
MAY | 14 | MONDAY | we're all heading into work today, but at lunch, there will be a special luncheon hosted at apple headquarters for all local companies. so we'll head over and get to meet all of the other big bad business men of other famous websites and products! it'll be great.

+ + + + + +

I thought I was going to be late for the luncheon in at the Apple headquarters, but I was early. I must have missed the bulk of traffic, which must’ve sucked for the rest of the office who hadn’t left already. I was really excited to meet all the other business executives from the different companies. This was the kind of pressure I thrived in. Luckily for me it seemed like the other business executives were mainly men so I wouldn’t have to put up with women.

“Hey,” I said sitting down next to some guy who looked vaguely familiar, “Do I know you?”

He looked up at me with a tilted head and said, “I don’t think so, but I’m Landon.”

“Nice to meet you,” I said, “Do you mind if I sit here?”

“Be my guest,” he said with a shrug, “What’s your name?”

“Sorry,” I said taking my seat, “I’m India.”

“Nice to meet you, India,” he said with a smile.

Before I could continue the conversation I saw Lian walk in and make her way toward us. I rolled my eyes and immediately a bad mood overcame me. She came directly up to Landon and kissed him on the cheek.

“I see you’ve met my lovely co-worker, India Sage,” Lian said with a fake smile. Landon turned to me and then back to India. He definitely felt the tension between us.

“You never mentioned you had a boyfriend, Lian. I thought you were in a committed relationship with Belvedere,” I said with a defiant attitude in my voice.

“Only on weekends,” Lian said with a stupid grin on her face.

“Who was the blonde guy you were all over at Cross then?” I asked looking down at my nails, not really interested.

“Perry,” she said simply. I cringed at the thought of another guy who would be stupid enough to be with her. Then I realized that if the guys were that stupid they deserved each other. She continued to talk to Landon, but I ignored her.

“India!” Talia said sitting next to me.

I sighed and said, “Hi, Talia.”

“So this is great!” she said, “It’s so fascinating to see different people from these world companies. Don’t you find it exciting?”

“Sure, Talia,” I said passive aggressively.

“So, I have this idea for the timeline-“ Talia began, but I cut her off.

“Listen, Talia, I’m sure your idea is wonderful and it’ll make everything so much better, but I really don’t want to hear about it,” I said bluntly. It was true.

“Geez, India,” Talia said, “This is why you have no friends.”

“Talia, I have friends, it’s just that I prefer to keep business and pleasure separate,” I said snidely.

I felt a tap on my shoulder and I turned around expecting some other idiot from the office, but it wasn’t. in fact, it was someone who I thought I’d never see again.

“India, right?” Will, from the bar, said.

“Yeah,” I said taken completely by surprise, “Will, right? What are you doing here?”

“I work for Apple, finance executive,” he said with a smile, “And what about you?”

“I work for facebook,” I said pleased at his choice of career, “Business executive.”

“Facebook, wow!” Will said, clearly impressed, “very nice, and I thought I’d never see you again.”

I raised my eyebrow and said, “Same.” And with that I turned around and faced the speaker. Maybe California wasn’t the hell-hole I pegged it to be.

We are young
MAY | 12 | SATURDAY |
despite the fact that it is the weekend, we are going to be going in and out of meetings all day. we have some important business to discuss, particularly about the new addition of facebook's timeline and how we are slowly incorporating it in to everyone's profiles. it'll be a long day.

+ + + + +

I was at the office on time and heard so many people complaining about working on a Saturday. I was in no mood to hear people complain and desperately wanted to say something to them, but I restrained myself. It was 8:15 and there was a meeting in 15 minutes so I grabbed my notepad and headed into the conference room. With my cup of starbucks in hand, I made a point to sit away from everyone else. This was work, not a social club.

From across the conference room I saw Talia, the weird one. Now granite, to work at facebook everyone has to be weird in their own way, but Talia takes it to a whole other level. She’s constantly arguing with Mark, but he always gives in. God only knows why, because half the time her ideas sound so stupid and trivial. And on top of her relentless ways with Mark, her fashion style is ridiculous. The pieces individually were great, but together it was a hot mess. I shook my head and then turned my attention back to my legal pad. I was just thankful she wasn’t in the business end of facebook. I couldn’t stand her in my department.

“Hey, India!” I heard a happy voice call from down the table.

I looked up to find Sutton waving at me. I waved back with a half-hearted smile.

“I’ve gotta talk to you after the meeting! There’s something I wanna tell you!” she said happily.

Before I could respond I heard a scoff and turned to see Indigo. I glared at her and she continued to laugh and smirk.

“Is there something wrong?” I asked raising my eyebrow.

Indigo scoffed at me and said, “Oh nothing. I just find it so amusing that for someone who is supposed to be so smart can’t get her own date.”

“Excuse me,” I said leaning forward, “what is that supposed to mean?”

Indigo looked at Sutton and then me. “I guess you’ll find out after the meeting.”

I looked at Sutton and she avoided eye contact with me. I could barely focus during the meeting and as soon as it was over I rushed to find Sutton.

“Sutton,” I hissed, “What the hell was that about?!”

“Look,” Sutton said taking me aside, “Yesterday at the bar, I overheard your conversation with Will. So I worked my magic and found his facebook profile for you.”

“You what!?” I exclaimed. I didn’t know whether to be embarrassed or angry. What in the world would possess her to look him up? Now I knew what Indigo was talking about.

“I just thought I’d do something nice for you,” Sutton said with the smile fading from her face.

I sighed and rubbed my forehead with my hands. “Look, Sutton,” I said through clenched teeth, “I suppose I can appreciate what you wanted to do, but please don’t /ever/ do it again.”

“So, do you want the information?” Sutton asked pulling out a piece of paper.

“God, NO!” I said and with that I was out of the conference room.

I don't wish your dreams come true
MAY | 11 | FRIDAY |
happy friday everyone! you've all been such good busy bodies that mark is rewarding us. after our long work day, we're getting of at eight to head out to a new bar/restaurant opening downtown, called the cross. dress nicely and be sure to get to know one another.

+ + + +

I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go out with my new co-workers. My life was dedicated to my work and advancing my career, but getting to know the people who I spent the majority of my days with were not a priority. However, if I wanted to make a good impression I needed to go, and I did just that. I went back to my new flat and changed into something more appropriate for a party. When I arrived at the restaurant almost everyone from the office was already there. I walked over to the group and took a seat and found myself a drink.

Across the room I saw one girl from the office all over some guy with a drink her hand. She looked like she was having a good time, in fact, too good of a time. While I stared -actually glared- at her she noticed and made her way over. When she got closer I realized it was Lian, a business executive like me. Well, not like me. She’s only pursuing her MBA at Stanford. I have my doctorate from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. I got my undergrad and graduate degrees within5 years; it helps to be ridiculously smart. God only knows how long it’ll take her to get even close to where I am.

“India, why so glum,” Lian said with alcohol seeping off her breath.

I rolled my eyes and said, with clenched teeth, “Shouldn’t you be studying?”

Lian cackled and then said, “Oh f*ck off. Didn’t you have fun in college?”

I stood up and faced her. “No Lian, I, unlike you, focused and studied hard when I was at university. That’s why it only took me 5 years to get my doctorate. How long did it take you to get your doctorate? Oh wait. You don’t even have your masters yet,” I said with a smirk on my face.

Lian glared at me and said, “You went to the number two business school in America, right? Oh no, that’s me sorry. I guess 4 isn’t as good as 2.”

I laughed, rolled my eyes, and said, “Honey, I applied to the top 5 business schools and got into all 5. Going to MIT was my choice. I got into schools on my own merit, not because Mark Zuckerberg got me into Stanford. Now, if you’ll excuse me I’ll let you get back to ruining your future.” With that I left Lian standing there. I had no idea how I was going to work with such a drunk b*tch, but to get to the top I’d have to suffer with some people like that.

I walked over to the bar, away from the group and ordered a drink. I was going to need a few to get through the night. I sighed and started to think about all the things I needed to get done at work and pulled out my blackberry. If I started planning now, then maybe I could spend mother’s day with my mum, but there’s never any guarantees.

“A blackberry at a bar?” I heard an unfamiliar voice say.

I turned to my left and found a gentleman sitting on the stool next to me. I smiled politely and laughed, “What can I say, my work consumes me.”

He smiled and there was a twinkle in his eye, “Now that can’t be fun.”

I shrugged and said, “You’ve gotta make sacrifices to get to the top.”

“I’m Will,” he said with an outstretched hand.

“India,” I said shaking his hand, “You’re not from here are you?” I asked finally hearing his accent.

He shook his head and said, “You’ve got me. I’m from England, I’m here on business.”

“Very nice,” I said taking a sip of my drink, “I’m not actually from here either. I’m an east coast girl.”

“Can I be honest with you?” he asked leaning in toward me.

I shrugged nonchalantly and said, “Why not. Go for it.”

“The East Coast kills the West Coast,” he said with a grin.

I threw my head back with a laugh and said, “I think we’d be good friends.”

Will leaned back and then smiled. “Maybe we would,” he said.

Before I could continue the conversation, we were interrupted by Sutton. “Hey, India!” Sutton said happily.

I sighed and turned to her. “Hi, Sutton. Is there something you need?”

“Nope! Just wanna see how you’re holding up!” she said flipping her hair over her shoulder. Then she turned her attention to Will and said, “Hello there! I’m Sutton, I work with India.”

“Hello,” he said politely and then turned to me and said, “I’d better be going, you ladies enjoy your evening.”

“He was cute!” Sutton exclaimed as he walked away, “Did you get his phone number?”

“No,” I said simply.

“What!! He was so cute and so into you!” Sutton said smacking my arm.

I looked at her with my eyebrows furrowed together. “Sutton, no. That type of thing is not even on my radar right now. My career comes first.”

“Oh poo!” Sutton said, “Such a downer, India! Learn to loosen up and have some fun!” and with that she flounced away leaving me alone at the bar.

I rolled my eyes and couldn’t help, but laugh. Facebook might not have been my ideal job, but there would definitely be no lack of drama.

That's what makes you beautiful
As soon as the Santiago’s returned Francisco and I told them about our relationship. They were both thrilled for us, especially Mrs. Santiago. I honestly thought she was going to cry, but she restrained herself. Telling the Santiago’s was the easy part. Now, we were in the Herrera’s foyer and I thought I was going to throw up.

“Are you ready for this? We don’t have to do this now,” Francisco asked holding my hand.

I fidgeted nervously, but smiled and said, “Of course! Francisco, I can’t always be afraid of your mother.”

“Alright,” Francisco said, but before we could fully enter the house Mrs. Herrera found us in the foyer.

“What is this?” she asked crossing her arms.

Francisco looked at me then back to his mother and said, “Mom, there’s something we have to tell you. Mom, Ivy and I are in a relationship.”

There it was. It was out and I stood nervously waiting to hear what she had to say. At first she didn’t say a word. She just stood there as if nothing was said, but that soon changed. “Francisco, don’t be ridiculous. You can’t be in a relationship with her. She’s not our type.”

“Mother!” Francisco snapped, “I /can/ and /will/ be in a relationship with her. She’s /my/ type and that’s all that matters.”

“Please, Francisco,” she said coolly, “You’ll get over her soon enough. She’s just an au pair. She’ll be gone in less than a year.”

“I- I- I think I’m gonna head out,” I said with tears welling up. I turned around and make a break for the door. I started to run, but Francisco caught up to me.

“Hey!” Francisco said pulling me into his embrace. I sobbed into his chest and he held me tight. “I am so sorry for my mother, but you have to know that’s not how I feel.”

“Really, Francisco,” I said between my sobs, “I’m giving you an out. You can leave me if that’s what you want.”

“Ivy,” he said holding my head in his hands, “Ivy, I love you. I never want to leave you. Don’t ever listen to what my mother says.” I smiled up at him and he whipped my tears and kissed me on the forehead. “Come on, let’s get outta here.”

29. Your reaction to the Purple Piano Project ...

“Oh that sounds so awesome!” I said to Mike as I was getting out of the car.

“I wish you could be here,” he said, “purple pianos and singing just aren’t the same without you.”

I smiled and blushed, even though he couldn’t see me. “I wish I could be there too! But I promised my dad I would help him today with the restaurant. Tell everyone I miss them!”

“I will,” mike said, “Love you!”

“Love you too!” I said, “and miss you lots! Talk to you as soon as I get done.”

The Social Network

"you can't make 500 million friends without making a few enemies."

welcome to the facebook. founded in february 2004 at harvard campus in boston, massachusetts by mark zuckerberg, the social networking site was initially launched to run exclusively to all harvard students. later, the site branched out, reaching to a few ivy league schools, such as yale, columbia, and even stanford, located right here in our very own palo alto, california. after spreading out to other schools internationally, facebook then finally opened for all. and it quickly became one of the most popular websites in existence today... with over 900 million members, and leaving mark zuckerberg to become the youngest billionaire /ever/. it's so easy just to log on, add your friends, and post a status, but imagine the life behind the screen.

palo alto, california. within close enough radius to san francisco, palo alto is home to stanford university, one of the prestigious, private catholic universities in the unites states, making it an ivy league. not only is palo alto home to stanford, but it's home to facebook too. despite its founding in boston, facebook corporation moved out to the northern california city. so you've made it. you're either a programmer, an advertisement agent, a code writer, a business exec, or maybe even one of those people who sit and dream up of the next big thing. whatever. it doesn't matter. you're at facebook now.

"a million dollars isn't cool... you know what's cool? a billion dollars."

INDIA SAGE {21}
JOB: business executive
BIRTHDAY: July 29
HOMETOWN: Brooklyn, New York
BIO: Growing up on the eclectic streets of Brooklyn India knows more about the bohemian and hipster culture than one might think. She’s a mix of the oldies (30s - 50s) and the new Indie culture. She lives in a studio apartment with her mother a well-to-do Brooklyn artist. They’re more like sisters than mother and daughter. Sometimes that’s great for India because she can get away with so much, but other times it’d be nice just to have a regular mom. With no dad in the picture it can get depressing without an actual parental figure in her life. Don’t get me wrong, she loves her mom to death, but it’s just not the same when the person who is supposed to be your mom acts like your sister most of the time. India graduated early from MIT, with honors of course, with a degree in business management. Because she went to a school that has a male dominance, she quickly learned to be ‘one of the guys’ and in fact, sometimes she forgets she’s a girl. The majority of her friends are guys, she doesn’t really know how to get along with girls. And because of that, don’t try to stand in her way or contradict her because she’s got a fire inside of her that’ll let loose. She knows what she wants and isn’t afraid of getting there…. No matter what it takes. She hates pride and conceit and isn’t afraid of giving someone a reality check. She knows no one is perfect, including herself, and hates when people try to act like they are. She thinks they’re hiding a true component of themselves under a layer of pretentious b!tch. Overall, she’s a down-to-earth girl who’ll welcome you into her arms, but don’t cross her because she can be a fierce one…
